Starting Point

Starting Point Overview

What is Starting Point?

Starting Point is a 10-week conversational environment where people explore the Story of God and begin to experience community. Starting Point groups are a safe place for people with questions about faith, as well as those who want to learn about the Bible and Christianity. One of the goals of Starting Point is to help people find their places in the story.

Who is Starting Point for?

Starting Point is the place to start in community at Epic. Once you go through Starting Point, then jump into Next Step which will launch you into long-term community.

What is the size of a typical group?

Starting Point groups are typically ten to twelve participants and two to four leaders (for a maximum of sixteen people). Each group has at least two leader units (one leader unit is one person or a married couple).

When and where do groups meet?

The entire Starting Point experience is ten weeks. Each group meeting lasts seventy-five minutes. Sometimes the discussion will go longer, but we strongly encourage leaders to end on time. Most groups meet at homes during the evenings.

How often is Starting Point Offered?

Starting Point is offered multiple times throughout the year. Find out when groups will be formed at our Sunday Workshop Gatherings.

What do the materials include?

  • Conversation Guide: a full-color guide divided into ten chapters with ten audio messages on five CDs
  • The Bible: a New Living Translation of the Bible with a great introduction to the story of God and how you can find your place in the story.

How do I start?

Starting Point and Next Step Intro is the best way to learn about Starting Point and to get into a group. The Intro occurs after a Sunday morning Worship Gathering and will last approximately 20 minutes. Once you attend and sign-up for Next Step, you will need to purchase the conversation guide. Read the first chapter and answer the questions before attending Starting Point. Starting Point and Next Step Intro’s take place in January, May and September throughout the year and will be announced in our worship gatherings as they approach.
